Business Strategy

Think of a business plan as your number one selling document.  It is written by an entrepreneur outlining their vision, how it will be managed and what is needed to achieve their goals.  All businesses should have a plan, especially if you will be working with the government.  Business PlanThey want to see you have a well-thought out company.  Is your business viable, are the risks acceptable, can loans be repaid and when, are your projections realistic, are you ahead of the competition and are you thinking through the complexities of business ownership thoroughly?  There are a few steps in winning a Scheduled contract.  Step one is deciding if your company is a good fit.  Step two involves making an offer.  Within this you have to complete training, understand the solicitation, develop a contract specific business plan, prepare and submit the offer and lastly, receive an award.

When well conceived, a business plan gives potential investors a blueprint of your company’s vision, mission, objectives, strategies and action plans.  It should outline your course and be easy on the eyes with compelling visuals.  Business StrategyIn days past, a business could get away with not having one.  However, as credit becomes harder to get and more competition is competing for the same dollars, a good business plan will give you confidence and increase your chances of success.  Don’t be the company that can’t get needed capital when you need it the most.  If you do business with the government, you need one. Fail to plan, plan to fail.

A good business plan isn’t just to get financing and business.  It forces you to think through the products or services you are selling, who your competitors are and what they offer, milestones to gauge success, financials, the market or opportunity and objectives.  You need a compelling purpose or mission statement.  Many people launch businesses without knowing answers to these questions, which is a mistake.  Taking the time upfront to examine your goals will keep you focused.
